My first destination was to get to the Northern tip of the Humber River. I was ultimately running out of time and the heat was starting to get to me. I had to take a break at a nearby mall before I inevitably decided to meet the trail halfway instead of starting the trail from the top. Cycling on the road was fast but scorching hot and on main roads were dauntingly busy to attempt.
After biking for over an hour in direct sunlight, biking along the river was a nice change. The view was great and I felt a sense of peace not having to cycle next to cars or on the hot pavement. This section honestly felt too short and wish to revisit it one day.
As I was nearing Sherway Gardens and basically at the border of Mississauga, I was starving! Passing by all these restaurants on The Queensway street wasn't helping. It took nearly 4 hours before I got here, including many breaks. West-Toronto bordering Mississauga was a very car-centred place, not only were the roads large and open, but I even had trouble finding a bike lock for a couple of minutes. All worth it for some great beef Terriyaki!
The day was nearly over, but I was determined to have at least visited one of the parks I had on the agenda! The only one I was able to reach in time happened to be Humber Bay Park. It had a great view of Toronto in the distance and was surrounded by the Great Lake of Ontario. It was beautiful to get away from the city and the destination you'd want to see for yourself.
I realized even at the pace I had biking to Sherway Gardens, I wouldn't be able to make it home by sundown. I ultimately took the transit home with TTC, but I had to stop by the Humber Bay Arch Bridge to at least see the end of the river I had been biking alongside for a good quarter of my day. For a trip nearing 50km, I'd recommend anyone up for a bike ride to check these places out.
